The grid View type determines the set of grid View elements available
within a grid View. You can change the visibility of these elements to
visualise data in the most convenient and user-friendly manner.
Each grid View consists of elements that provide various capabilities
such as:
- Data representation (Cells and Data Markers)
- Data arrangement (Filter Panel, Columns, Group By Box, Categories
and Series) - Analysis and summary (Group Footer and Grid Footer Panels)
- Navigation (Indicator and View Navigator)
- Description (Preview Section and Chart Legend)
Cells
Cells display field values from particular records and, thus, stand at
the intersection of a column and row.
Filter Panel
The Filter Panel (also called a Filter box) displays information about
the currently applied filter criteria and allows users to do the
following:
- Customise the filter criteria
- Enable, disable or clear the currently applied filter
- Apply a filter by clicking the filter MRU list button and selecting
a filter from the opened filter dropdown for the filter panel
Group By Box
The Group By box displays the headers of the columns that are involved
in grouping (if any). This box also enables users to group a View's data
by serving as a drop target for column headers. If enabled, the box is
displayed at the top of the View.
Categories
Categories classify chart values for comparison purposes in Chart View.
The number of chart values displayed per category depends on the diagram
type (a simple or multiple diagram).
Series
A Series in the Chart View represents related data points that are
plotted in a chart diagram. Each data series in a chart has a unique
colour or pattern (unless specified otherwise) and is represented in the
chart legend. Normally, the data (series values) displayed in Chart View
are grouped into Categories. It is possible to plot one or more data
series in a chart to produce both simple and multiple (or grouped)
diagrams.
Group Footer Panels
Group Footer panels are used to display group summaries for particular
columns. Footer panels are displayed at the bottom of the Table View.
Such panels are used to display total summaries (also called footer
summaries), but you can also display any custom information you need.
Indicator
If enabled, the Indicator is displayed at the left of a grid View. Cells
divide the indicator into the following parts:
- The band header indicator (corresponds to the band header panel)
- The column header indicator (corresponds to the column header panel)
- The row indicator (corresponds to data rows and group rows)
- The footer panel indicator
View Navigator
Grid Views can display their own data View Navigators which enable users
to navigate through dataset records, add and delete records, control the
data editing process, work with bookmarks and filter data.
Preview Section
The Preview Section allows you to display a memo field's content or
custom memo information for records. Such sections are displayed above
or under each data row and their width matches total column width.
